Are y’all ready? This could get long. We were gone on vacation to WI and MN for almost an entire week so there is lots to blog about. I think I’ll blog in segments, one day at a time. I contemplated the idea of doing it backwards so it would all appear in chronological order, but that’s just too much work on my part. Not to mention I get confused enough as it is, trying to go backwards might really confuse me.
We left for vacation a week ago today. We got started a bit later than we planned, but it was vacation and we had no time to be anywhere so it wasn’t a big deal. We left out about 11am with a quick stop at the bank and then an even quicker stop at the drive-thru of McDonalds (it was noon before we got to the far side of Decatur) and we were on our way.
The kids did really well in the car. We only had to stop twice – the first time for a bathroom break for Chip and me. The second time we stopped was at the rest area near the exit for PawPaw. We had contemplated stopping at a gas station but figured the rest area would be better because they have a park. Unfortunately, we pulled in to find that the rest area playground was closed. I’m not sure who was more disappointed – the kids because they couldn’t play or me because I had to listen to them complain the entire I was trying to nurse Seth. 20 minutes after we stopped, we were on our way again.
We got to Kenosha about 5:30 – just on time for dinner. My Gram had it waiting for us. A wonderful dinner of fried chicken, mashed taters, corn, fresh green beans and corn muffins. Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY can make fried chicken like my Gram! YUMMY! For dessert, she had a boston creme pie, peanut butter cookies, and oatmeal raisin cookies. Double YUMMY! I told Chip before we left that there was no reason to even consider dieting until we got back from her house. I was right!
After dinner, we sat and visited with my Gram. I called my mom and my other grandparents to let them know we had made it safely and to make plans for our next few days there. We made plans to hook up with my mother the next day for lunch and then to go over to my grandparents apartment the next day.
Nothing really exiciting happened on Monday. We rode in the car and then sat with Gram until it was time for bed. The kids were wound tight the entire time we were there and I was certain that they would tear her house to the ground before it was time to leave on Thursday morning. Getting them in bed on Monday night especially was tough – even though they never napped in the car. Too excited I guess.
We turned in and went to bed around 11:30, absolutely exhausted but looking forward to a new adventure the next day!
