Sunday was a normal Sunday and it was nice to be in some sort of routine again. Church, lunch, nap, church, dinner, bed. The only thing that was out of the ordinary was Chip’s mom stayed for a while after church. She was holding Seth and we were all sitting outside. The kids were off playing and Chip was off digging weeds out of the flower bed and garden. She asked if we were busy on Monday afternoon and if we wanted to meet them up in Decatur after her drs appt. We decided that was fine and we’d meet them up there.
Monday morning was quiet at the Sanders house. The kids slept until after 9am – just worn out from the excitement of the previous week. We left for Decatur after lunch – about 1:30 and headed for the bank and then Target to wait on Chip’s parents. We were just getting out of the van at Target when they called so they came on up. We got what we needed (did you know that Target makes a generic version of infant Mylicon drops? Now instead of paying $10 for 1oz we pay $3.89!) and a quick stop at Starbucks before heading to the mall.
While at the mall, Chip got his fathers day gifts a bit early – 3 new button down shirts he can wear on Sunday mornings without a tie. For some reason I have a feeling I’ll be the only one who has a hard time not seeing him in a suit on Sunday mornings. But they were nice shirts and two of them were on clearance – which made us both happy. Chip’s mom was looking for new work clothes and his dad got tired of waiting, so he took the 3 older kids down to the pet store and then let them play in the playland at the mall for a while. Chip’s mom and I played “What Not To Wear” with the clothes on the clearance rack but were able to find her some nice classic pieces among the “fashion disasters”.
After leaving the mall, we went for dinner at CiCi’s Pizza. It’s about the only place that our family can eat for less than $20 anymore (by only a penny – our total is always $19.99). We can’t even do that at McDonald’s anymore. Chip and I left Elijah & Kait with Gamma & PawPaw and raced to Walmart to get what we needed in the way of groceries for the week so we could get back on time for Chip to go to the VBS meeting. We just barely made it.
20 minutes after we got home, Mom called and asked about the weather because things had turned nasty up towards Walmart and they were getting blown all over the road as they were trying to get back. About 5 minutes later things started getting pretty black here as a nasty storm blew in. Nothing more than thunder and lightening and heavy winds, but that was enough to freak the kids out. I finally called Chip and just had him come home because I didn’t know what to do with the monkeys. We got the kids calmed down and then I settled in to finish some stuff on the computer while Chip played Xbox to distract the kids (or maybe to keep himself distracted from the kids freaking out around him).
We finally got them in bed without too much incident about 10pm. Sometimes the days just seem so much longer than 24 hours.
