I’m feeling the need to blog something. It’s been a few days and we’ve just been hanging out as a family most of the weekend. Friday, we ran errands and had friends over for dinner. Saturday, Chip took the older boys to a football game and Kait and I played at home while Seth napped. Tonight (Sunday) after church, we piled onto the couches/chairs/floor and watched the first hour of Extreme Makeover:Home Edition (whatever happened to Extreme Makeover? And why do we still feel the need to add “Home Edition” since there is no longer another edition?). It’s just beena rather relaxing weekend for us.
The only “downer” of the weekend was when Chip fell. About 2 months ago, we had some friends over. Their 4 & 5 year old boys decided to pull on the baby gate and broke the hinge that allowed it to swing open and closed. If you ask me, there is no reason why small children should be able to break a gate like that. So, I’ve been trying to get someone from Safety 1st to return my phone call since you can’t just buy a replacement part online (what is that all about? It’s 2006 for crying outloud!).
In the meantime, we’ve moved the gate and because it’s up one step, we step up onto a chair in the dining room and then over the gate. Or we take the gate down. On Friday night, Elijah almost fell because the chair tipped as he was climbing over. I thought to myself, “We should probably just buy a new gate” – which is exactly what I think Safety 1st is hoping we’ll do. Thankfully, his friend was right there with him and grabbed him before he fell. However, less than 24 hours later, Chip wasn’t so lucky. Not only did the chair tip, but it tossed him to the floor, where he landed on his bad shoulder. At least he’s already scheduled for therapy in the morning.
We are starting our big countdown this week to our vacation. We’re looking forward to a trip to see Chip’s sister and husband in Nashville and then a trip to Wisconsin to see my family all during the month of October. We can hardly wait!
